The Child Aid Lanka committee members have, since the AGM, been reviewing how we can make our funds help underprivileged children in Sri Lanka. We have connected up with Practical Action in the UK, who introduced us to Practical Action South Asia, which has their office in Colombo. During her visit to Colombo in April, our CAL Secretary, Kumari Ratnayake, met the Director of Practical Action, accompanied by the President of Rotary Club of Colombo and a representative of Zonta Club, to discuss our project to provide renewable energy, i.e. Solar Panels and Wind Turbines, to childcare centres and orphanages. We are also reviewing microfinance projects in the tsunami-affected parts of the island, setting up projects to help charitable organisations help themselves.
